Real Madrid moves close to winning the title

Real Madrid's fast start sees off Eibar and maintains pressure on ...

Real Madrid is in red hot form since the resumption of La Liga. They have won all of their games so far. Their latest win came against Getafe at home after a late penalty goal by Sergio Ramos.

Real Madrid is currently on the top of the league with 4 points above Barcelona. We all know that Barca has lost 6 points in their last four games, the latest one was against Atletico Madrid at home that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Barca has previously lost points away to Sevilla and away to Celta. The first game was a very tough game for them where they didn't get many chances to score due to which that match ended in a goalless draw for the Catalans. Second against Celta was an unfortunate one for the defending champions where a last-minute goal from Iago Aspas with a direct free-kick snatched the victory from their jaws. Barca took the lead in that match from a Luis Suarez goal in the 37th minute assisted by Lionel Messi. Celta drew in the 50' minute but after some time Barca again took the lead from the same combo that gave them their first goal. This time Celta drew in the 89th minute of the match from a direct free kick goal scored by their talisman.

On the other hand, Real Madrid has been up to their best and has a 100% win record since the restart of football. Their match against Getafe was their sixth game after the restart and they have won all of them scoring 12 goals in total with an average of 2 goals per game.
Real's match against Getafe proved to be a very tough test for them as the away side pressed high since the start of the match. They were the better side between the two in the first 20 minutes after that Real gathered some momentum and had the best chance of the match till that point fall to their left winger Vinicius Jr after a cross from Mendy. The shot was deflected towards goal by the winger that was miraculously saved by the goalkeeper. The first half was about the goalkeepers of both the teams.

The first half finished in a goalless draw. The second half started like pretty much the same way as the first half. Getafe again was on top and to rectify that Zidane needed to make some offensive changes as quickly as possible. He made three changes together in the 60th minute when Vinicius, Modric and Isco were replaced by Rodrygo, Valverde, and Asensio. These changes lifted Real, they started creating some chances in the opponent's half.

Real Madrid had three to four clear cut chances but was not profited. Dani Carvajal made an amazing run from the right flank into the opponent's box in the 78th minute who was taken down and Real got awarded with a penalty in nearly the dying moments of the game. Everyone knows that who was going to take it and it was their captain slotted it in the back of the net with just 10 minutes remaining.

That lead of Real continued till the last minute of the match and no further goals were scored meaning that Real will move 4 points clear of Barca at the top of the league with just five matches remaining to play for both of them. Real Madrid for sure in the best position to win the league with the form they are in and also their schedule is not that tough. Barcelona will play an away match against Villarreal where they can lose more points if they continue to play the way they are playing now.

Barca has won the last two league titles where Real's last one came in the 2016/17 season when Cristiano was there in the team. That campaign was pretty different than this one as that was based on their offensive gameplay with Ronaldo, Bale, and Benzema in the attack. But this season is completely different from that as this time it is their defense who is saving their days. Real has just scored 61 goals in this season so far compared to 106 they scored in that campaign but they conceded 40+ goals in that La Liga season compared to 21 they have conceded this season. So, Zidane has changed his gameplay this season.

If we see the remaining games for both the clubs it is pretty even on terms of who will play the difficult games and who will play the easier ones. Barca will be facing Villarreal away and that will be a really tough game for the Catalans. Real's next game is also a very tough away match against a team that didn't allow Barca to breathe in their latest clash with them and that team is Athletic Bilbao. Los Blancos will be facing Villarreal in the last game of the season.

If we see the remaining clashes, we can say that the title will come down to the last match of the season. But still, we are favoring Real to win the title due to their form and also their tactics of giving rest to their key players for main matches. But still, it is to be seen who will win the title.
