Real Madrid back to the top!
Real Madrid has been prolific since the restart of football after the COVD-19 pandemic. Real Madrid has won all of their matches after the resumption of football across Europe. They have played five games so far and have won all of them. They are on their way of winning 34th La Liga title in their history. They are also the club to win the most amount of European titles as they have won 13 titles in total where four of thirteen have come in the last six years.
Real Madrid played their fifth game after the resumption of La Liga against a Catalonian side Espanyol. Espanyol has always played some good football against Real. They gave Los Blancos a very tough time during the 90 minutes they played in the RCDE stadium. Barca was hoping from their fellow region side to show a great performance and produce a good result: either draw or beat them.
Match started at 10 pm according to the local time in Spain. Los Blancos started with a 4-4-3 formation with Casemiro back in the starting team after a suffering a suspension in the last game he played. It was an away game for the league leaders. It was a pretty even game from the start, both the teams got equal chances to score. Both the teams defended very well and didn't allow the other team to get a clear cut chance to score a goal. The deadlock was eventually broken by a Real Madrid player in the 50th minute of the match when the Brazilian Casemiro scored from a magical backheel assist the Frenchman and their top scorer Karim Benzema.
Casemiro was the best player for Real on the pitch last night. The second best player for them was Thibaut Courtois who has been solid throughout the season. Real Madrid defender didn't have to do much in the match and nor the midfield. The most creative player for them in the match was their main striker Karim Benzema.
Real had the lead that continued till the end of the match. No further goals were scored in the match and it ended 1-0 in Real Madrid's favor. That victory of Real took them two points clear FC Barcelona. Barca was on top before they drew against Celta with a last-minute goal from their main man Iago Aspas from a free-kick. This was the second draw for the Catalan giants since the return of football in Europe. That draw against Celta can prove a killer blow to them in their title race because with only six games remaining in the league for both of them no one can imagine Real Madrid to lose at any stage.
Real Madrid has won all of their games and they have scored a total of eleven goals and has kept three clean sheets in their last five games including one against Valencia. Real had their first game against Eibar which they won 3-1, second against Valencia that was won by a score of 3-0 which included a brace from Benzema and also return to form for him. The third game was against Real Sociedad won with a score of 2-1 with Sociedad having one of their goals being disallowed in the 70th minute of the match. The fourth match was at home against the bottom side Mallorca that they won easily 2-0 with no resistance from their opponents.
Karim Benzema has been their best player of the whole season so far and no one in the team seems to surpass him at the end of the season. He is working as a kind of a leader of the team: the role which Ronaldo used to play for them when he was in the team. When Cristiano Ronaldo left them in 2018 for Juventus, everyone was wondering and worried about who will his role and who will take his place in the team. Well, no one can match his standards but Benzema has been a kind of leader now and also lifted the standard of his game since he has left the club. There is no proper substitute for the French striker in the team to replace him if he gets injured someday.
Real Madrid is still missing some players due to injury with the likes of Luka Jovic, Lucas Vasquez, and Nacho but still, they have so much depth in their squad. Their remaining games are not against difficult teams if we compare the schedule of Barcelona. Barca is yet to play Atletico Madrid and is supposed to miss points against them. Sevilla is also chasing the leaders.
Real Madrid fans will be hoping that their team wins all the games and can lift the title for the 34th time in their prestigious history.
