Joao Felix would have been a different player if he would have been at Real
Joao Felix is a Portguese international player who is currently playing at spanish club Atletico de Madrid. He is best known for his speed, dribling and his finishing. He can play as a winger and sometimes as an attacking midfielder. He looks like a very bright asset for football in future.
He started his professional career at Benfica and was a class act from the start of his career. His international side is Portugal where he is a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo. From the start of his career all the big clubs of Europe with the likes of Manchester united, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona etc showed interest in him. In 2019 he decided to take a big step and decided to join bigger European clubs as mentioned above.
On 3rd of July 2019, he joined the Spanish club Atlectico Madrid with a contract of more than 7 years for a whopping fee of £113 million. This was the third highest sum ever paid for a footballer and also was the atletico's biggest money signing ever. He became second most expensive teenager. After his transfer everybody expected the wonderkid to prove his class which he showed for his previous clubs.
The start to his new season at his mew club was very bright. He looked very energetic at times and considered that he will become the best player in the World after four to five years. But later in the season it showed that Diego Simeone's style of play doesn't suit him. The main reason is that Felix is an attacking player and wants to attacks all the time but Simoene's tacticts are pretty different from it. He always plays with 4 to 5 defenders and also a defensive midfielder is well which somewhere down the line reduces a lot of the attacking options of the team. Also he lost the spark in the main part of the season.
One more thing which has effected him is the fact that Griezman left the club and all the burden of the team shifted towards him. All the expectations of the fans also took a turn to his side. He has scored 6 goals in 21 La liga appearences and 2 goals in 5 Uefa appearences. These stats are below average for a player who has such a huge price tag on him and also has massive amount of talent. A player who can change the course of the game on his head simply should have way more better stats than this.
There are some people who says that the reason for his downfall is the style of play of Atletico. He should have joined Real Madrid. Real Madrid were pretty much interested in the yougster when he was up for the sale. They were ready to pay his price tag but it was him who decided to not to go for Real. The question here is: Would he had been a different player if he had chosed Real over Atletico?
The answer is obviously yes, because Real Madrid would have suited to his style of play. Also Zidane has made a lot of bad players good ones, he would have learned a lot under his coaching. His style of football is counter attacking football and sometimes also the style in which FC Barcelona play. Real have diversity in their team and style of play. He would have scored more goals as Real madrid score more goals than Atleti and also have a better defensive unit then them. He would have blossomed there and would have played the best football of his career. In short, he would have been a completely different player than what he is at his current team.
What are your thoughts on that?
